FAQ

Hello there!

As young company, we are still building out our FAQ page so if you have a question and cannot find the answer here, please email us at LittleRedHenBakingSupply (at) gmail dot com.

Here are a few of the questions we have gotten so far:

Q; Is there a particular fondant you recommend?

A: Yes! We LOVE Renshaw brand fondant (available on Amazon).  We have found that many American made fondant brands (Wilton, Satin Ice, Hobby Lobby, etc) are not optimal for two-toning with fondant stamps. I think this is most likely due to the fact that American fondant is made with corn syrup whereas European fondant is made from glucose. The glucose fondant just seems to work so much better for two-toning.

Q: Do I have to use fondant with these stamps?

A: Nope! I'm personally not a huge fan of fondant (not corn syrup based fondant, anyway) but Rolled Buttercream is AMAZING for these decorated cookies!  It is easy to make using ingredients in every baker kitchen, easy to color (using commercial or homemade, plant-based food color) and is affordable. Not to mention the decadent and delicious taste of Rolled Buttercream - there is nothing like it! To me, few things are as luxurious as a slow morning with a cup of coffee and a homemade sugar cookie decorated with rolled buttercream.

Q: What is this Rolled Buttercream stuff you keep raving about?

A: Glad you asked! Even though I have been baking for decades, it was only in the past year that I learned about Rolled Buttercream and it has introduced a whole new level of fun (and deliciousness!) to my baking. Rolled Buttercream (RBC) is pretty much what it sounds like -- it is Buttercream frosting that has extra powdered sugar added to it so that it has a firm, dough-like consistency to it.  As its name suggests, it can be rolled out like dough and takes impressions from fondant stamps beautifully!  I have found that I get best results when I roll the RBC between 2 sheets of parchment (or a parchment rectangle folded in half) and place the RBC cutout onto a freezerboard (rolled ice cream board) to quickly firm up the RBC cutout for easy transfer onto the cookie. I am working on a video demonstrating this right now and as soon as I have that done, it will be linked HERE.

Q: Where can I find the recipe for Rolled Buttercream?

A: I'm sure Google would turn up some results, but each first order comes with a recipe card for our tried and true Rolled Buttercream recipe!

Q: Are the designs on your site your full line?

A: Absolutely not! We have a list of about 400 designs we will eventually be bringing to this website. Launching with a full line of 12 Birth Flower Stamps, Cookie Cutters, and Buttercream Cutters was probably us biting off more than we realized and some of the designs are being finalized but those Birth Flower Sets are perfect for showcasing the versatility of our exclusive Buttercream Stamp technique. With our Birth Flower collection, each set will allow you to make either a bouquet of full stem flower cookies OR a traditional floral cookie bouquet featuring the blooms of the flowers only. Our buttercream cutters also create that lovely two toned look of fondant stamps but with the yumminess of buttercream! We will be listing 3-4 new stamp/cutter set designs each week.

Q: What supplies do I need to make these stamped cookies?

A: For the most part, you will just need the same supplies you would need to make any other decorated sugar cookies. Some designs may require additional tools and we strive to include uncommon tool (tools most people don't have on hand) with each kit.  For example, because our Peter Rabbit set is designed to be water colored (whether it is done in fondant or RBC), that set includes a fine tip nylon brush for the water coloring ( which can be done with food dye that has a bit of alcohol or extract added to it.) The Rainbow Row House Set includes a black food dye marker ( I call it a food sharpie ;)

Q: The listings say that each order comes with some supplies in addition to the stamp/cutters - what is included?

A: Each customer's first order will include a set of essentials such as an acrylic fondant scraper, a nylon fan brush, a cheesecloth bag for dusting with corn or tapioca starch, and a very helpful labeled book box so that you can keep your sets organized. As mentioned above, some sets will include other helpful extras specific to those designs. My goal is to make the experience of using Little Red Hen stamps and cutters as easy and convenient as possible. As the young people today like to say, "I got you, fam!" ;D

Q: What are the stamps and cutters made of?

A: Our stamps and cutters (and texture mats - coming soon) are all made with AMERICAN made food safe PLA and AMERICAN made acrylic. We print each order ourselves in our workshop. Our goal is to be the most American-made website in the baking business! As we expand our listings of new products, there will always be a focus on sourcing American made materials when possible.

Q: How do I clean the stamps and cutters?

A: By washing gently in WARM (NOT HOT!) soapy water. I like to fill a colander or salad spinner bowl with stamps and cutters (nestled inside of a larger bowl) and run WARM soapy water over them. I leave them to soak for a few minutes and then rinse them in cool water. They air dry beautifully. Easy peasy. Note: Do NOT put stamps or cutters into the dishwasher.

Q: Do you take custom requests?

A: Yep! To make a custom request, simply email us at LittleRedHenBakingSupply (at) gmail dot com and put the specific custom request in the subject line. For example, if you want to request, say...a wedding bells stamp and cutter set, put "Wedding Bells Custom Request' in the subject line and we will get in touch with you. If the custom request is a design we already have in the works, there will be no custom charge, but if the request is specific (like your company or school logo) then there will be a $30 custom stamp charge.

Q: What if I get stuck and have a question?

A: No problem, just email me (Amanda) at LittleRedHenBakingSupply at gmail (dot) com and I will be happy to help answer questions.  As we fill our socials and YouTube page with instructional videos, you will find most of your questions answered in those videos. I apologize in advance for my camera shy awkwardness ;P
